The battery balancer and monitor MB60-16-3A is a system for measuring, balancing and protecting lithium batteries with 16 cells. The balancer (battery monitor) additionally features active cooling (fan) and can thus actively "balance" voltage with a balancing current of up to 3 A.
The battery monitor MB60-16 is designed for monitoring the voltage of individual lithium battery cells and for automatically balancing their voltage. It is a modular system consisting of two main parts: the control board MB60-16-RD and one or more voltage measurement and cell balancing boards MB60-16-3A-MNV. The basis is always one control board and one or more measurement and balancing boards. The system can work with batteries having 16 to 80 cells of any type with maximum voltage up to 4.3 V per cell. The voltage of all cells, unlike other devices, is measured by one input of one microprocessor, eliminating the need for voltage converters or groups of microprocessors communicating via bus. As a result, there is no dispersion of measured values due to external circuits even for a large number of cells in series, and all voltages are easily comparable. Another advantage of the system is that it does not require an external power source for power supply; it is powered from the monitored battery. If the battery is discharged, monitoring is terminated and the system completely disconnects from the battery to avoid further discharge. If it would be necessary to monitor the battery continuously, the system can be powered by an external source. Temperature sensors measuring cell temperature and a current sensor measuring current flowing into the battery can also be connected to the control board.
Control board MB60-16-RD: is the basic module of the system and controls its operation. It is operated by four buttons, measured data is displayed on a two-line LCD display. There is a siren on the board for audio signaling of battery fault conditions and two relays signaling several error states. Up to the same number of temperature sensors as the number of monitored cells and one current sensor with Hall probe can be connected to the board. There is also a shorting jumper on the board that can be used to start or stop battery monitoring.
Voltage measurement and cell balancing boards MB60-16-3A-MNV: each can handle 16 cells. The boards are responsible for connecting the voltage of individual cells to the processor on the control board so it can measure it. They also balance cells with excessively high voltage by discharging them on command from the control board. The board connects to the control board by insertion (compact assembly) or can be connected to the control board with an 8-wire cable (distributed assembly). Several boards can be connected in series to increase the number of monitored cells. The boards are also interconnected with 8-wire cables. Note: If the battery voltage is higher than 70 V, it is necessary to order MB60-16-3A-MNV boards in a special high voltage version.
